I Sky You, 2009-2010

I Sky You, Rhizome Commission for New Media, 2009
Installation: chemical reagents, glass forms, custom audio and electronics
Dimensions: variable

I Sky You is an installation that sonifies the radiance of chemically synthesized light. It is inspired by the phrase Frida Kahlo used to describe infinite love: “I Sky You.”

Clear glass forms hang over head. Drop by drop, reagent A is released into reagent B’s chamber creating bursts of brilliant blue light that fill the otherwise dark room. Small video cameras detect the light and activate a computer program that in turn produces unique resonant tones based on each flare of light and tuned to the acoustic character of each
vessel. Visitors experience an imaginary sky blooming with color.
